Decks driven by divas

DJ Biskit – radio and club DJ – is dedicated to the craft and determined to make a name for herself. Abandoning the security of a corporate career to follow her passion, Lerato Maepa plunged into her new career nearly ten years ago.

In a congested, male-dominated industry, DJ Biskit loves what she does, and so do her fans. Driven by the motivation to stay true to herself and her playing style, her advice to anyone starting in the industry is to have fun. Consumed by her passion, DJ Biskit has a sense of connecting to her own heartbeat every time she puts on her headphones and cues the music. She knows a good DJ has the power to make you forget your problems, to make you dance and just let go.

Back in 2007, a DJ friend offered to teach Lerato how to spin the decks. And it was love at first spin! Since then she has played at various events – Feather Awards, Sunday Cookout and Joburg Pride, to name a few.

DJ Biskit is the resident DJ at online station Vision View Sports Radio and her show, The Weekend Showdown, airs every Saturday from 6pm until 9pm.

‘I believe that being one of the few female DJs in the industry will motivate young girls who want to give it a try. It will encourage them to stand up and chase their dreams. But even though I’m a woman, I look up to the likes of DJ Dino, Black Coffee and DJ PH.’

Female DJs face challenges but DJ Biskit’s determination and belief in her dreams keep her going. She has her sights set on DJ-ing in iBiza, and with her attitude and passion, it might be sooner than we think! In the meantime, catch her at [italics]Industry[end italics], 305 Fox Street, Maboneng or on the online radio.
