The ConCourt says, do not spank your kids in your home. Many people on different platforms argue that they have turned out the way they have (successful and well-mannered) as a result of a rod.
However, when asked to provide scientific evidence of the implied correlation, they have failed dismally. But, is it reasonable to ask for scientific proof in such a case … are we not being narrow and overly positivist in insisting on scientific proof when searching for answers to societal issues such as child discipline?
Is the ConCourt ruling a further entrenchment of Euro-Western epistemic imperialism, which undermines indigenous knowledge and indigenous way of life? Or is it a progressive law that is indeed aimed at protecting children against abuse in the hands of adults?
Where to from here?
